Dr. Carolyn Koliseyenum Uzorka — A Woman of Grace, Grit & Glorious Impact

There are women who walk into a room and command attention—not with noise, but with grace, wisdom, and presence. Dr. Carolyn Koliseyenum Uzorka is one of them. A woman whose journey is marked by resilience, academic brilliance, and unwavering commitment to service, Dr. Carolyn embodies everything Upclose with Spicy Model celebrates: strength, elegance, and substance.

Born on May 21, 1968, to Late High Chief Thompson O.A. Onyenajua and Late Mrs. Elizabeth Ite Onyenajua of the Emu Kingdom in Ndokwa West LGA, Delta State, Carolyn’s upbringing was rooted in strong values, cultural pride, and a thirst for learning. Today, she stands tall not just as a wife to Prof. Michael C. Uzorka, a renowned Professor of Sociology of Development at Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, but also as a proud mother of five children and six grandchildren.

A Scholar in Every Sense

Carolyn’s educational path is rich, intentional, and deeply inspiring. Her foundation was laid at Olor Primary School, Emu-Uno (1973–1978) and built upon at Sapele Technical College (1978–1983). She then pursued shorthand at a commercial school (1984–1986), before enrolling in a one-year basic programme at Michael Okpara College of Agriculture, Umuagwo (1986–1987).
Her thirst for knowledge continued:

  • Diploma in Secretariat Administration, Rivers State University of Science and Technology (1988–1990)
  • BSc(Ed) in Psychology (Guidance and Counselling), University of Port Harcourt (2009)
  • Master’s in Education, University of Port Harcourt (2014)
  • Doctorate in Educational Psychology, University of Port Harcourt
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Social Work, University of Port Harcourt

Dr. Carolyn is the definition of a lifelong learner, constantly evolving and pouring her knowledge back into the system that raised her.

Decades of Dedicated Service

Her professional journey began with a one-year Industrial Training at Nigerian Agip Oil Company Ltd (1990–1991), where she worked in both the Training Centre and Telecommunications Department. She would later undergo internship experiences at Instan Comprehensive Secondary School (2006) and the Psychiatric Hospital (2008). Dr. Uzorka’s stellar career within the University of Port Harcourt includes a string of leadership roles that reflect her administrative brilliance:

  • Administrative Assistant, IPTTO (2011–2014)
  • Administrative Coordinator, Department of Petroleum Engineering (2014–2016)
  • Administrative Coordinator, Department of Music (2017–2020)
  • Administrative Head, Food, Nutrition & Home Science, Faculty of Agriculture (2019–2022)
  • Senior Assistant Registrar, Faculty of Social Sciences (2022–2023)
  • Currently: Principal Assistant Registrar and Administrative Head, Department of Information Technology

Wherever she is posted, Carolyn brings structure, empathy, and excellence to her office. Her presence has left an indelible mark on every department she’s served.

Beyond her professional roles, Dr. Carolyn is deeply involved in community service and women-centered organizations. She is a member of:
