If you haven’t heard the name Saint Murz yet, you’re about to. The Port Harcourt-raised Afrobeats artist is carving a lane of his own with raw storytelling, infectious melodies, and a deep-rooted passion for music. In this exclusive interview, he takes us through his journey, influences, and vision for the future.
THE BEGINNING: FROM A STUDIO HANGOUT TO A LIFELONG PASSION
My name is Kelvin Egonu, but the world knows me as Saint Murz. I come from a Christian home and have spent most of my life in Port Harcourt. My introduction to music was quite unexpected—it started with my friends. We were always going to the studio, and before I knew it, I fell in love with the craft. My dad also played a huge role. He was a music addict—he played everything from Bob Marley to Beyoncé, Ja Rule, and more. That kind of musical exposure shaped my ears early on.
Saint Murz found his biggest musical influences in Burna Boy and Wizkid, but his inspirations extend beyond music. “Some of the people who inspire me aren’t even artists. Ronaldo, Ragnar Lothbrok—they all have one thing in common: they never give up, they stand tall, and they own who they are.”
FINDING HIS SOUND AND PURPOSE
The moment Saint Murz recorded his first song, he knew this was more than just a hobby.”I played my first single so much that I wanted everyone to hear it. I introduced my music to anyone I met, and their reactions confirmed what I already felt—I needed to keep making music, to make people feel something every time they listened to me.”
On his creative process, he says: “Melodies just come to me. Sometimes it’s a beat I hear, sometimes it’s just my mood. Everything works together when I’m in the studio.”
Beyond music, his inspirations come from a mix of anime, movies, and family. “I’m a big anime fan, I love movies, and my family plays a huge role in keeping me motivated.”
NAVIGATING CHALLENGES AS AN INDEPENDENT ARTIST
Like many independent artists, Saint Murz faces financial hurdles. “Funding my projects to reach my target audience is the biggest challenge. I haven’t fully overcome it yet, but I’m working with what I have, hoping it attracts the right investors.”
Despite this, he’s making the most of his resources. “I produce some of my songs, I mix and master all my music, and I work with my brothers to keep costs low. Right now, I focus more on promotion.”
His hard work is already paying off— “Hitting over 5,000 plus monthly listeners on Spotify, independently, with no major budget, is a huge win for me.”

“I want people to know that they can do whatever they set their minds to. And more importantly, it’s okay to be vulnerable. You don’t always have to act tough.”
LOOKING AHEAD: DREAMS AND GOALS
Saint Murz has no small dreams— “In five years, I see myself performing at the Super Bowl. My long-term goal is to build a catalog that will live on, even after my time on this floating ball is over.”
And dream collaborations? “Drake and Rihanna. I need to make that happen.”
CURRENT & UPCOMING PROJECTS
Saint Murz recently released an EP titled Ghetto Romantic. “It’s a three-track project, and the fans love it. I pray it keeps growing.”
The inspiration behind it? “Ghetto Romantic is me. It reflects where I grew up, how I talk, and how my environment shaped me. I wanted to showcase that beauty.”
As for what’s next? “I’m still honing my skills, still evolving. Fans can expect new things.”
BEYOND MUSIC: OTHER PASSIONS
When he’s not in the studio, you might find Saint Murz on a football field or a table tennis court. “If I wasn’t making music, I think I’d be a talent manager or an A&R.”
One thing is clear—Saint Murz is here to stay, and he’s just getting started.
